Jackson County Circuit Court
The Jackson County Circuit Court operates from the Justice Building at 100 South Oakdale Avenue in Medford. This court handles felonies, misdemeanors, civil disputes, divorce, child support, probate, and juvenile cases. The Trial Court Administrator is Tina Qualls. Jackson County also has a Juvenile Court at the Juvenile Services Building, 609 West 10th Street in Medford. The Jackson County Justice Court sits at 4173 Hamrick Road in Central Point. Jackson County Court Records Page
The Jackson County Circuit Court has a detailed records page on its website. The Jackson County records page explains how to get audio copies, case file copies, and juvenile record requests.
The records page also lists the email address for serving a notice of appeal on the trial court administrator: JAC-Transcript@ojd.state.or.us. This is required under Oregon Rules of Appellate Procedure 1.35(e) for any appeal from a Jackson County case.
Requesting Case File Copies
To get copies from a Jackson County court file, you must fill out a Records Request Form. Submit it at the Public Room window on the first floor of the Justice Building. Records are available at the window between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM, and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on weekdays. The court is closed on legal holidays.
Court staff will figure the total cost after you make your request. Under ORS 21.345, copies cost $0.25 per page and certified copies are $5.00 per document. If your copies will be mailed, postage is added. You must pay all fees before copies are made. Allow five business days from payment for your request to be filled. Search Court Records Online
The state offers two online tools for Jackson County court records. Both pull from the same database that court staff update daily.
The OJD Records and Calendar Search is free. It shows case numbers, filing dates, party names, case types, case status, and hearing dates for Jackson County cases. You can search by name or case number. This tool covers all 36 Oregon circuit courts.
For full access to the register of actions, judgment dockets, and some filed documents, use the OJCIN OnLine system. It requires a subscription. The setup fee is $150. Monthly charges vary. Under ORS 193.077, the state may provide electronic access to court records, but the official record remains at the Justice Building in Medford. Public Access to Jackson County Records
Most court records in Jackson County are public. Oregon's public records law under ORS 192.311 defines a public record as any document kept by a public body. Court files qualify. You do not need to be a party to the case. Anyone can ask to see or copy most records at the Justice Building in Medford.
The courthouse has public access terminals in the lobby. These kiosks let you search case data at no charge. You can look up filings, check case status, and find hearing dates. For copies of the actual documents, ask at the clerk window.
Some records are not public. Juvenile cases are sealed under ORS 419A.255. Adoption files are closed. Cases involving mental health and matters protected by federal law are restricted. Jackson County Court History
Jackson County was founded in 1852. It is one of the older counties in Oregon. Court records stretch back to that era. The county grew around the Rogue Valley, where most of the 200,000 residents live today. Medford became the county seat and the largest city. The region is known for health care, the arts, and agriculture. Over 2,000 acres of wine grapes grow here, serving more than 100 wineries across the valley.
The Jackson County Clerk also issues marriage licenses and keeps property records. The clerk office is at 10 S Oakdale Ave, Room 114, in Medford. Marriage records from 1985 to the present can be searched online through their Digital Research Room. Certified copies of marriage records cost $7.75 for the first copy and $4 for each extra copy. These records are separate from court records but may be useful if you need proof of marriage in connection with a court case in Jackson County.
The Oregon State Archives holds historical records from all 36 Oregon counties. Their collection may include old Jackson County court files, dockets, and judgments that are no longer kept at the courthouse in Medford.
